and bring to class – Look through to get a sense of the scope of the Kingdom
passages and consider the difference between the kingdoms of men and that of
Christ
Mt.4:17 From that time [when He heard
that John had been arrested] Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for
the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
[Mk.1:14 Now after John was
arrested Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming
the gospel of God,]
Mt.4:23 And he went
throughout all Galilee teaching in their
synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease
and every affliction among the people.
Mt.5:20 For I tell you
unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will
never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Mt.6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these
things will be added to you.
Mt.13:10-11 Then the disciples
came and said to him, "Why do you speak to them in parables?" 11And he answered them, "To you it has
been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not
been given.
Mt.13:40-43 Just as the weeds
are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. 41The Son of Man will send his angels, and they
will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, 42and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43Then the righteous will shine like the sun in
the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him
hear.
Mt.24:14 And this gospel of
the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all
nations, and then the end will come.
Jn.3:3-6 Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I
say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."
4Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be
born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be
born?" 5Jesus answered,
"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit,
he cannot enter the kingdom
of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Jn.18:36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of
this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been
fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not
from the world."
Lk.1:31-33 And behold, you
will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32He will be great and will be called the Son
of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father
David, 33and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom
there will be no end."
Lk.17:20 Being asked by the
Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, "The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be
observed,
Acts 1:3 He presented himself alive to them after his
suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking
about the kingdom
of God.
Acts 8:12 But when they
believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name
of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Acts 19:8 And he entered the
synagogue and for three months spoke boldly, reasoning and persuading them
about the kingdom
of God.
1 Cor.4:20 For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in
power.
1 Cor.15:50-53 I tell you this,
brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God,
nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not
all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52in a moment, in
the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and
the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
Heb.1:8 But of the Son he says, "Your throne, O
God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your
kingdom.
Heb.12:25-29 See that you do not
refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who
warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from
heaven. 26At that time his
voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, "Yet once more I will
shake not only the earth but also the heavens." 27This phrase, "Yet once more,"
indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been
made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. 28Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a
kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship,
with reverence and awe, 29for our God is a
consuming fire.
