THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST
Begin
by examining the contents of the two millennial charts. As you consider the following passages and
your answers to the questions, compare them with the charts.
A. The Blessed Hope/His Appearing/That
Day
Tit.2:13
- waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our God and
Savior Jesus Christ
Heb.9:28
- So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a
second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for
him
2
Tim.4:8 - there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord,
the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also
to all who have loved his appearing
1
Jn.3:2 - we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall
see him as he is
1. What event (blessed
hope) are we to be anticipating and preparing for?
2. What are some things
that happen when he appears?
B. The Revelation
1
Pt.1:3-5, 7, 13 - he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through
the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is
imperishable, undefiled, and unfading…a salvation ready to be revealed in the
last time. (Dan.12:13 – you will rest and then at the end of the days you will
rise to receive your allotted inheritance)…so that the tested genuineness of
your faith…may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the
revelation of Jesus Christ…set your hope fully on the grace that will be
brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ
3. When will the
revelation of Christ occur?
4. What are some
additional “hopes” to look forward to?
·

are used to describe the revelation of Christ in 2:1-2?
6. List more related
events in 1:6-10, and 2:1.
C. The Coming of Christ
Mt.24:30-31 - Then will
appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the
earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of
heaven with power and great glory. And he
will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his
elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
1 Thess.4: 15-17 - we who
are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those
who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will
descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and
with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in
the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
7. List, underline,
circle, or highlight the parallel words or phrases in these two passages.

17. What happens to the
earth when we are resurrected (v.11, 23), glorified (v.17), revealed to the
world (v.19), our adoption finalized (v.23) and our hope is fully realized
(v.24)? See v.19-21
18. What do your answers
to questions 11, 14, and 17 tell you about the age which follows the
